Having grown up and lived my life in different cultures, I have always been the 'outsider', the 'foreigner', I grew up being sensitive to these new surroundings and landscapes that I found myself in. Working and living always adjusting my thinking and behaviour to my new surroundings. Always feeling like an outsider comes with the reality that things may be temporary, always being ready to move and understanding that there is a transient nature to things.
This is reflected in my work, especially my installations that are made to be easily transportable, are site specific and created by me, on location and interacting with the space they will be displayed in. While repurposing materials from previous shows. I use materials and colours that reflect the deep-rooted memories and connections I have with my history and identity. The work is a way for me to connect and share my uniqueness and show our commonalty....by showing my inner nature I open myself to the viewer and hopefully create a connection that transcends our natural backgrounds.
